As an original equipment manufacturer, RME’s core competencies include quality design and manufacture as well as global distribution, after-sales service, mill relining and consulting services. Via a network of wholly-owned international subsidiaries, the organisation supports customers in more than 50 countries.
Integral to the ongoing development of RME’s technology suite, the opportunity now exists for an experienced Engineer to play a key role in the organisation's automation, machine control and monitoring strategy.
Reporting directly to the Chief Technology Officer, and working collaboratively with other members of the Engineering Team, you will play a lead role in the complete systems development lifecycle for computer vision and machine learning software solutions, while also being directly engaged in complex mechatronics engineering applications, including: developing novel solutions to industrial problems utilising mechanical and electronic processes and computer technology; designing, developing, managing and maintaining high-technology engineering systems for the automation of industrial tasks; applying advanced control systems; applying electronic and mechanical processes and computers to tasks where the use of human labour may present hazards; studying feasibility, cost and performance benefits of new mechatronic equipment; carrying out modelling, simulation and analysis of complex mechanical, electronic or other engineering systems through the use of specialised software; and associated monitoring, evaluation, reporting and improvement.
Ideally you will have a Mechatronics Engineering background, in which you will have gained experience in a quality design engineering environment, as well as sound understanding and experience with control theory (including programming experience with controllers and/or PLCs) and proficiency with a 3D modelling application (preferably SolidWorks). Knowledge and experience with hydraulic design and detailed Finite Element Analysis would be a distinct advantage.
On that foundation, you will have ideally gone on to develop a computer vision and machine learning specialisation and be able to demonstrate your proficiency in: creating/modifying convolutional neural networks (in Tensorflow and pyTorch); creating/modifying training datasets; sensor fusion (vision, lidar etc); and embedded programming (C++, Python etc).
A degree qualification in Mechatronics Engineering, Infomechatronics , Computer Science or related discipline is required. Post-graduate qualifications, peer-reviewed published papers and presentation at major conferences will be well regarded.
